It's like your iPhone—on your computer...

I had the opportunity last week to get a sneak peak at a new smartphone-style app that runs from your PC. They are called Pokkies launched from local San Diego based OpenCandy. I fully anticipated on being underwhelmed at the opportunity to use Facebook, Gmail and Groupon in another different way. However, a quick demo later and I was saying, "that is pretty sweet - I'd use that!". Quick loading, quick installing and sexy interface brings my iPhone experience to my PC- where I'm spending much more of my day then on my phone. This is a real opportunity to create a whole new kind of software for the desktop.

Pokki launched today and I've seen quite a bit of press already. We as web developers were excited at the opportunity to participate in this new frontier. The apps are created using HTML5 and CSS3 which falls right into our wheelhouse. The slick interface and animations lend to some great opportunities for us to get real creative real fast. The availability to push content and updates to clients PC's opens up a wealth of opportunities. No more waiting for the new deal of the day to hit while I'm checking back every so often. Boom, just push it to me through the pokki. 

With a handful of featured pokies ready to use, we are excited to see (and create) what's next. I understand that Flash support will be available soon and we are actively working with the SDK. We are ready to put your brand in your very own pokki, are you?
